    What is Somerset Gateway?

    Somerset Gateway is an online database of local and community information. Somerset Gateway aims to:

    • allow people across Somerset to locate community information relating to their local area;
    • provide the 'first stop shop' for community information about Somerset;
    • increase participation in local clubs and societies; and
    • maintain a high quality and up-to-date information resource.

    What information is held on Somerset Gateway?

    Somerset Gateway holds information on clubs, societies, community and voluntary organisations and self help groups. Information includes contact details (name, position, telephone number, address, email), venue, timetable, links to websites and general notes on the purpose of the organisation. Organisations may also attach documents, such as minutes of meetings, annual reports, or leaflets/posters. The criteria for inclusion provides guidance on the information held on Somerset Gateway.


    What if I can't find what I am looking for?

    If you think that an organisation should be included, but you cannot find it then please contact us. We will try and locate a contact for you.


    What is the Community Information Partnership?

    Somerset Gateway has been developed in partnership. Somerset Libraries and Somerset Direct maintain the information on the database. Other partners such as Information Sharing and Assessment in Somerset have assisted in the development of Somerset Gateway. We are also working with the community and voluntary sector to secure their support.


    Where can I use Somerset Gateway?

    Somerset Gateway can be accessed free of charge in every library in Somerset via the People?s Network and anywhere that has Internet access. Information held on the database can also be obtained through the Enquiry Centre, by phone 01823 336370, text 07919 540839 or email somersetgateway@somerset.gov.uk


    How up to date is the information on Somerset Gateway?

    Each organisation is contacted annually to update their information. Organisations are also able to update their information regularly through a username and password.


    How do I add or change an entry on Somerset Gateway?

    If you would like to add your organisation to Somerset Gateway please complete the add organisation form. If the information about your organisation has changed, contact us so we can update your information. We can also provide you with a username and password to change your details whenever necessary.


    Is there a cost involved?

    There is no charge for accessing the information, although the standard printing fee will apply when printing in Libraries. Also organisations can add and maintain their information completely free of charge.


    How will my personal information be used?

    The Data Protection Act 1998 states that we must obtain consent before personal information is stored. We will only enter your information when you have filled in one of our forms and given your consent. Your information will be accessible through the Somerset Gateway database, which can be viewed by library staff, and the public through the web. You can tell us how you would like your personal information to be used and select to withhold personal details such as name and address from the website if you wish. In some cases your information will be used to create a hardcopy directory. If you have concerns about how your information will be used please contact us.
